Timber carrier

Carrier
Timber Carrier

Called by several other names (such as "lug" or "come-along"), the timber carrier allows two or several men to have a hand-hold on a log so they can carry it -- very useful when building camps or trestles or driving dams.

The design of the tongs has carried on. If you removed the wooden handles and attach a cable (or wire rope) to the tongs you have the next level of mechanization. Of course, the other end of the 'tong line' might be hooked to a horse, a tractor, or a winch, and the line might pass through a few blocks (pullies or sheves) on the way, to gain lift, direction change, or leverage (block purchase)
