The McGlone family and Burchett family settled in a 'holler' near the Carter Caves, in what was to become Carter County, KY prior to 1800 at place called McGlone Creek. By 1900 one branch of the family moved to to Rainer, Oregon. Though most of the migrants settled in an area of western Rainier now called 'Kentucky Flats', some some went inland to a then remote part of the County now named in their memory as 'Apiary', when they raised bees for sugar to facilitate traditional north eastern Kentucky occupations.

The beloved wife of this page's author, Martha Van Natta is one of descendents of the McGlone migrants.
