Crater Lake National Park is located in the Southern Oregon Cascade mountains. It was established as a National Park in 1902. It is very popular, having about 500,000 visitors a year. The lake is officially 1943 feet deep and 4.5 to 6 miles wide. The Rim Village is at 7100 elevation and the Lake Surface is 6,173 feet. The average annual snowfall is 44 feet.
The year around entrance to the park is from the south (Medford or Klamath Falls--actually near Chiloquin). The less popular and only season entrance is on the North which is from Roseburg with an easterly outlet onto US 97 (south of Chemult) in Central Oregon. It is about 100 miles from Roseburg, up the pretty, but somewhat winding Ore 138 which follows the North Umpqua river.
