Featured here is a fairly uncommon variety of lift truck. It bears an ID take of American Hoist and Derrick co. of Toronto, Ontario. The logo matches the more familiar "American" of US orgin. We have American excavators and log loaders featured elsewhere on this site. I didn't even know they made forklifts until we got this one.
I had assumed it was an old Taylor until I saw the label on it. It's a 30,000 lb lift truck powered by a Ford V-8 Engine. It has an Allison Transmission I believe, and what looks to be a Clark drive axle. It has a massive integrated counterweight with the rear 'fenders' being 4 inch thick Cast iron. It has 8 foot teeth for handling containers, but obviously doesn't have the 60,000 lb capacity for handling fully loaded 40 foot containers. IT features full air brakes with spring lock parking. The mast is short making it a good working lift truck where overhead clearance is restricted, but it will just stack containers 2 high.
